Our privacy statement applies to all our customers and prospective customers. It explains what Scopic Research does with your personal information, how we will collect, process, and hold it, and what your rights are under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We will be the Data Controller as defined under the General Data Protection Regulation.

How do we collect information from you?

We obtain information about you when you use our website, for example, when you register to access our website, or when you download and print our reports, or when you use the portfolio blending tool, or when you respond to newsletters, or when you call or email to ask us about our services.   

What information will we collect?

We will collect and process the professional / personal information provided by you when you register to access our website, or when you send us an email.

We will also collect information regarding the reports you download or print and the funds you select when you use our portfolio blending tool.

The information you provide can identify you individually and includes, your name, email address, the company you work for, your job title and your company’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Reference Number. 

How is your information used?

We may use your information to:

  1. Build your user profile.
  2. Collect aggregate information about users’ needs, about how our website is being used, and what we can do to improve.
  3. Provide you with more tailored research and services.
  4. Provide you with information about our research and services.
  5. Audit the use of our website.
  6. Comply with any legal or regulatory obligations.
  7. Assist with any other legitimate business interests we may have. (Any decision to process your information on the basis of legitimate business interests will be made on a case-by-case basis in line with the guidance as set out in the GDPR.

You are not required to give us this information but, if you do give it to us, it will be treated as consent on your part to us contacting you and collecting information for these purposes. 

We may contact you by either email or phone. If you prefer not to receive information about products and services from Scopic Research Limited, simply email us via the “Contact Us” page and we will remove your name from our contact / marketing list. 

Sharing your personal data

  1. We may share your personal information for legitimate business reasons or as may be required by applicable law and regulations.  
  2. We will disclose your personal information to any government, legal, or regulatory body if required to do so by law and regulations.
  3. We may anonymise information about users of our website for various reasons, including ascertaining the general location of our users and how our website is being used – for example, information showing the parts of the website most used, the fund groups and types of investment strategy most viewed, the fund reports downloaded or printed, and the funds and combination of funds used in our portfolio blending tool. We may share this anonymised information with third parties, such as fund groups. Information shared in this way will disclose the name of the company you work for, but it will not be capable of identifying you personally. We may also share anonymised aggregated data with publishers.
  4. We may share your information where services to Scopic Research Limited are provided by an external provider. For example, we have arrangements in place with service providers in relation to IT systems and support, document creation and management and research services.
  5. If you work for a fund group, we may pass your personal information to a third party. We might wish to do this for a number of reasons, for example, to enable us to carry out work we have agreed to do for you.
  6. We may transfer our databases containing your personal information if we sell our business or part of it.

Apart from as described above, any information about you that Scopic Research holds or collects won’t be disclosed to third parties, except as required or permitted by law or any regulatory body. We will otherwise keep your information confidential.

The act of registering on the Scopic Research website confirms your consent for Scopic Research to use your personal information ‘for profit’. You may ‘opt out’ or withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us at hello@scopicresearch.co.uk .

How long will we keep your personal information?

We will retain your personal information for no longer than is necessary to enable us to provide our services to you and to meet any legal or regulatory obligations that may apply.

Your Data Protection Rights

We operate under the General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPR’), effective from 25 May 2018 (which replaced the Data Protection Act 1998 from that date).  In the UK, the requirements of GDPR have been incorporated into the Data Protection Act 2018. You have a number of rights, including the right to:

  1. Request a copy of the personal information we hold on you. When you request this information, this is known as making a Subject Access Request (SAR). In most cases, this will be free of charge, however in some limited circumstances, for example, repeated requests for further copies, we may apply an administration fee.
  2. Have personal information we hold about you transferred securely to another service provider in electronic form.
  3. Have any inaccurate personal information corrected.
  4. Have any out of date personal information deleted once there’s no business need or legal requirement for us to hold it.
  5. Object or restrict some processing, in limited circumstances and only when we don’t have legitimate grounds for processing your personal information.
  6. Object to your personal information being used to send you marketing material. We will only send you marketing material where you’ve given us your consent to do so. You can remove your consent at any time.

Online enquiries

If you make an enquiry via our website enquiry facility, the information we collect, for example, your name and email address, will be used to answer your enquiry. We may cross reference the information you provide with information held on our systems. To ascertain the most appropriate department to handle your enquiry we may also hold this information for future analysis or reference purposes.
